In our country, we find some festival is celebrated but some festivals are celebrated locally and some are nationwide. All the festivals more or less related to getting God’s grace. Here I try to line up some of our great festivals which we celebrated by the whole nation with great joy and the happiness and their importance in our life.

Diwali Celebrated for the return of Lord Ram after 14 years exile
It is the
festival of decorating homes with lights and candles and by distributing sweets
and gifts in our friends and relatives. It is the festival generally observed
by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists
and will be celebrated not only in India
but also in different part of the world such as Singapore, Nepal, Malaysia,
Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Mauritius, Surinam, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
Not only they celebrated but also their government declares national holiday on Diwali. Diwali will be decided by Hindus according to Luni-solar Hindu calendar. As everybody may know Diwali will be celebrated as signify the triumph of good over evil. This festival is celebrated the return of Lord Ram, along with his wife Sita and his brother Laxman from his 14 years old exile after vanquishing the demon Ravana. So in celebration of the return of their king, the people of their capital Ayodhya , illuminated the kingdom with diyas and oil lamps to show their happiness. The festival starts with Dhanteras and second day of the festival is Naraka Chaturdasi, Amavasya is the third day of Diwali which marks the worship of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and fourth day is Diwali (Kartika Shuddha Padami).Diwali will be celebrated on 13th of November 2012. Bhai duj is the ceremony celebrated by Hindus generally on the second day of Deepavali.

Chhath(Celebrating for worshiping of God Surya)
Chhath is mainly
celebrated in Bihar, the Terali regions of Nepal and in Western U.P also called
as Dalla Chhath, Surya Shasthi and Chhathi. This festival mainly observed by
Hindu and Jainis ,will be celebrated this year on 19th November 2012 (Kartik Shukla Shasti). On this religious day Hindus observe prayers and
religious rituals which include Prasad and Puja, fasting and bathing in the
river and pray to the Sun. The word Chhath denotes the No. 6 in Hindi and the
festival is celebrated on the sixth day i.e Kartika.
Eid
(Celebrated twice a year Eid-ul-Fitr
and Eid-ul-Zuha
Eid that brings
people together will be celebrated by Muslims in the largest area of the world and
we can say almost all over the world, According to Muslim tradition, there are
two festivals observed by them every year that is Eid-ul-Fitr just after
finishing the Ramzan (litteraly means festival of breaking the fast) and second
is Eid-ul-Zuha in the month of Haj. Eid-ul-Zuha literally means is to
sacrificing of one being for the comfort of the needy, the aged, downtrodden
and the weak person. Islamic religion thinks sacrifice is a part of every
faith, no matter in what form it comes. Eid-ul-Zuha is also termed as
Eid-ul-Ajha, Eid-e-Qurban and Bakra-Eid.According to Islam religion man and God are close to each
other. In fact, it is not the sacrifice of a goat, camel, sheep, lamb or ram but of one's own self, comfort, affluence and
happiness in the name of God.
Christmas (Celebrating the birthday of the great Jesus on 25
December)
Christmas
is celebrated 25 December in every year
and celebrated Christian and Non Christians almost each every part of the
world. Christmas is celebrated on the occasion of birth anniversary of great
Jesus and it is celebrated by giving gift to family, freinds and other
relatives by socially gathering at one place. Christmas is also known as
Nativity,Xmas and Yule.On this religious day Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas, Father
Christmas and Christkind brings gifts for the children during these seasons. On
this prestigious occasion people offers Christmas card, gifts, decorations of
Christmas Trees. Most part of the world it is
celebrated on 25th of December but who continuing following Julian
calendar will celebrate Christmas on January 6,7,8 and 19 in the same year as
per Julian Calender.
Thai Pongal (Celebrating for worshiping of God Surya)
Celebrating date: 14 January 13
Thai
Pongal is celebrated by Tamilians in India (Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry ) and
Sri lanka is a harvest festival. As we celebrated Chhath in Bihar by worshiping
God Surya same in Pongal we traditionally
dedicated to the sun i.e God Surya and marks the beginning of the northward regions
journey of the Sun from its southernmost regions. Thai Pongal is celebrated by
Tamil people for thanking the Sun God for agriculture benefit or abundance and
will be celebrated first day of the tenth month of Thai in the tamilian
calendar mostly it is celebrated in the month of January as per our daily
routine calendar. This year Thai Pongal will be celebrated on 14 January 2013.
